The Big Break Up

The Big Break Up Things That Don't Help Gift Giving

Valentine's Day is over and we're breaking up with everything that doesn't serve us. We've fallen in love with so many things over Valentine's Day—romance, gifts that show our love and caring for the people in our lives. But now, it's time to move on from other things that don't work for us.

We're Breaking Up With Bad Timing:

It's been great but after a lot of consideration, it's time for us to move on from...

Last Minute Panic Shopping:

This is the year we get ourselves in gear and start Christmas shopping early! Let's set goals for ourselves and strive to be finished with our gift shopping by Halloween and our stocking stuffer shopping by Thanksgiving, what do you say? Let's avoid the stress, the crowded mall and the panic by shopping early.

Rush Shipping:

If we shop early, then we ship early. No more overnight shipping that costs the same amount as a our gift. No more settling for gifts that can only ship same day, next day or two day on Amazon. This year we are saving money on shipping and shopping early!

We're Breaking Up With Thoughtless Gifting:

We're Ghosting...

Generic Gifts:

Having go-to gifts is one thing but giving gifts that aren't special is another thing entirely. We are breaking up with not thinking outside of the box. We are breaking up with not thinking about what your recipient really wants or needs, because we are too busy to gift with intention.

Buying Gifts Because You Like Them (Not Them):

If you love a gift, but they won't, is it really a gift for them? There is always a happy medium that shows your trademark level of gifting with their desire to receive a great gift. If you love fancy things but they embody a casual nature, then it's time to compromise to give a great gift!

We're Breaking Up With A Lack of Intention:

It's Not Me, It's...

Gifting Without a Note:

Never miss a chance to express your feelings. A note that says thank you, happy birthday or merry Christmas is a little token of affection that adds an extra touch to any gift. A note also gives you the chance to thoughtfully explain your choice of gift–"sweets for my sweet" as a note a top chocolate.

Buying Trendy Gifts:

When it comes to gifts, always think timeless over trendy. The last thing you want after gifting a gift is for the recipient to have to make a run to the donation center. A great gift means the recipient will cherish this new possession for a long time. Of course there are exceptions if they will truly love a trendy gift, this might be for teens and tweens, but other than that try for a timeless gift.

We're Breaking Up with Poor Presentation:

A Conscious Uncoupling from...

Gift Bags

Not everyone will want to hear this, but gift bags should only be used when the gift inside is wrapped. Gift bags can be used for the transportation of a gift, but not the presentation of a gift. Presentation is part of the gift. It's the start of the magic that is gift giving. When someone sees a gift that is wrapped in fancy wrapping paper with a bow, it makes them feel special, and isn't that what we're going for every time we choose to give a gift?

Lack of Wrapping Preparation

Yes you have to have wrapping paper, tape and good scissors on hand. Make sure to have a neutral wrapping paper in your home at all times. You can choose a white or a cream that easily celebrates birthdays, Christmas, Mother's and Father's Day. Or try a red wrapping paper, while bold it still honors romantic occasions, Christmas and bright birthdays. And you can never go wrong with black–it's crisp, elegant and feels like a formal celebration of any occasion.

We're Breaking Up with the Aftermath of Gifting

We Just Need Space From...

Buying Gifts Without a Recipient in Mind

We've all done it. We've all seen a really pretty something or a really cool something and purchased it for, well, someone for a yet to be determined occasion. The issue becomes not having a recipient for this really cool thing. That means it will either sit in your closet or be gifted to someone who isn't the best recipient for it.

Keeping Items You Never Gifted

It's time to return or donate items that you may have purchased but never ended up gifting. You might have things in your gift closet that you were going to give but maybe they didn't feel quite right after you purchased them. Then, through the chaos of the holidays or just the business of life you never got around to getting rid of those items. It's time to clear the gifting clutter!

I know that breakups are tough, but it's for the best!

Very Happy Gifting!
